It’s no secret to us at Xplorco that there’s some fantastic food in Florida. On your next Florida vacation, exploring your food options is a great way to learn about the area for both families and those finding themselves miraculously free of the kids for awhile.

Huffington Post contributor Lisa O’Driscoll and her husband took advantage of the kids staying with grandma and grandpa to explore fabulous food options in the Clearwater area.

Here were some of their recommendations.

Clear Sky Beachside Café in Clearwater

The perfect adult spot for breakfast or brunch, Clear Sky’s Bloody Mary bar on weekends has “everything but the kitchen sink”. During the week, enjoy a healthy omelet or indulge with French Toast and fresh berries.

The Bait House in Clearwater

This charming old bait shack has a true beach vibe and surprisingly good eats in its laid-back space. Great for fresh fish and cold beer, it’s a great leisurely lunch stop.

Frenchy’s South Beach Café (5 Florida locations)

If you want lunch right on the water with a great view, Frenchy’s is perfect. If you’re on a diet, forget it because you will definitely want to indulge in crab fries even Alton Brown raves about: fresh crab, garlic aioli, Old Bay seasoning, butter, parsley…magic! Frenchy’s is also known for their super grouper sandwiches.

The Living Wall at the Living Room on Main in Dunedin is a fascinating way to get your greens.

The Living Room on Main in Dunedin

In the heart of Dunedin is the charming Living Room on Main. Why visit an ordinary restaurant when you can feel like you’re enjoying your meal in the intimacy of a living room?

You’ll have an upscale and unusual dining experience. They have a “living wall”, a working garden that grows right on the wall in the dining room, used to get lettuce for salads, drink garnishes and multiple other greens.

These fine suggestions are just a few. Florida is also home to a surprising amount of authentic Philadelphia-style food like soft pretzels, cheese steaks and pizzas as well. Stay tuned and we’ll bring you more on that!
