Everyone deserves to take a European vacation at some point in their life, but sometimes, it’s just not an easy trip to make. Whether it’s due to budget or not wanting to fly across a pond or any other reason, don’t worry because Xplorco has you covered. There are quite a few cities stateside that offer the feel of a European vacation that you can take to give you that amazing allure.
European Vacations in the U.S.
As an alternative to Tuscany, Italy, visit Napa, California where you can see winding roads, lush hills and amazing vineyards. With all sorts of wine and views, you can’t really beat this vacation as a great Italian-esque vacation without ever leaving the continental United States.
Mount Desert Island, Maine
Mount Desert Island is the second largest island on the east coast, and you can find Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park there as well. Oh yeah, and it will give you vibes of Cyprus, which is the third largest island in the Mediterranean. With great hiking and ridiculous coastal views, it’s a great substitute for Cyprus that will leave you feeling utterly European.
St. Augustine, Florida
Wanting that Madrid vibe without leaving the country? St. Augustine has you covered. It’s a city known for its Spanish colonial architecture that was settled in the 1500s by Spanish explorers, so it comes by its Spanish roots honestly. For even more Spanish culture, be sure to get the seafood paella at Casa Maya and check out Castillo de San Marcos, which is a 17th century fortress.
Mount Hood, Oregon
You don’t have to do much imagining when you’re in Mount Hood to believe you’re in a stunning French Alps town. The backdrop of the mountain and year-round snow just has that perfectly European feel. There’s even “European Alps-inspired apres ski fondue” at a local restaurant to fully transport you there.
Newport, Rhode Island
You’d never think you could find the gorgeous architecture and coastline of Nice, France in Rhode Island, but here we are. They also have the same French-Italian cuisine and fresh seafood you’ll typically find in Nice. While you’re there, be sure to check out their Cliff Walk. It’s an opportunity to walk along the Atlantic Ocean with a tour of some of the breathtaking beach-front mansions. You’ll feel like you’re in Nice the whole time.
The Bay Area, California
One trip to the Bay Area in California and you’ll feel like you’re on a European vacation in the British countryside. We’re not sure what’s more European than locally sourced charcuterie in a fountain courtyard. And similarly to quaint country towns like Hampshire and Essex being close to London, you’re only about 20 miles from San Francisco in some of these bay area towns that can give you the big city feel when you feel like venturing toward it.
